HSE to consult with principal of Cork school that caters for deaf students

It follows an announcement by the Junior Minister for Disability Anne Rabbitte yesterday that means the school will keep their speech and language specialist.

St Columba's National School in Douglas was told at the start of the year that their 34 deaf students would no longer receive speech and language therapy at the school following the roll-out of the HSE's Progressing Disability Services programme.

Speaking to RedFM News, principal of the school Triona Fitzgerald says the Minister's announcement yesterday is very welcome:

"I'm just very relieved, she asked the HSE to listen to us, and I think to negotiate and I am happy to negotiate, to talk with HSE. Up to this I've had very little engagement from them. I'm really looking forward to working out a workable solution for the better of the children."
