An I.T and science campus on the Western approaches to the city is being considered as part of the boundary extension.
It's been confirmed to RedFM News that the possibility of such a campus in areas that will soon fall under the remit of the city is being explored in a bid to attract more I.T companies to Cork.
An influx of I.T. software and security companies are expected in the coming years with the construction of a number of new office blocks in the city centre.
However speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Cllr Mick Finn says the city boundary extension provides a real opportunity to attract even more companies by also providing locations outside the city centre itself:
