Icy Roads cause chaos in Cork

There has been a spate of incidents Leeside as a result of icy conditions this morning.

Cork city and county councils have gritted all main routes but gardaí say that housing estates and minor roads are the worst affected areas.

The Schull to Ballydehob Road and the Castlefreke Woods road, near Rathbarry have both been closed.

Spur Hill, the DeerPark estate in Bandon and Convent Hill are impassable due to ice and delays can be expected on High Street.   

Motorists are being asked to avoid the Fermoy to Ballyduff Rd and Curragh Woods Estate in Frankfield if possible following collisions.

Extreme caution is being advised on the N71 Bantry to Glengarriff Rd and the N22 Ballincollig to Macroom Road. 

Black Hill - the minor road at the back of the airport down to Five Mile Bridge is completed blocked.

Black ice has been reported in the Kinsale area Gardaí in Bandon say the hills in the areas are badly affected, West of Bandon to Clonakilty is very icy and gardaí in both Bantry and Clonakility are dealing with a number of incidents.  

Bus Eireann has cancelled a number of routes Leeside including the 207, 215, 216 and the 220.
