Improvements on the cards for Cape Clear's water supply

It follows an announcement by Irish Water.

New plans to tackle issues with Cape Clear's water supply are due to get started early next year.

Irish Water announced the developments at a public meeting attended by Cork County Council and members of the local community.

2 million euro will be spent on re-piping the entire water mains on the island and a further 3 million euro on a new water treatment plant and additional storage.

Last summer was described by residents as one of the worst summers for years with Irish Water and Cork County Council having to transport an emergency supply of water by ferry to the island.

Speaking to RedFM News, Cape Clear resident Máirtín Ó Méalóid says they're hopeful of a better Summer this year.
