Industrial action looms at CIT

Strike action is looming at Cork Institute of Technololgy ahead of a decision on the proposed merger of the college with Institute of Technology Tralee. The TUI say motions have been passed this week to commence balloting members to take industrial action should the institutes approve the merger. Staff in CIT are concerned about the impact of such a collaboration which they say would dilute the unique identity of the colleges and could even affect staffing levels. Questions have also been raised about how the move would impact on the college's sporting teams and whether or not they would have to dissolve some of them. AUDIO: Speaking to RedFM News Assistant General Secretary of the TUI Aidan Kenny says if the members vote for industrial action it could eventually result in strike action.
