INMO call for financial incentives as strike action looms

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation say the only way to avert strike action and retain and attract nurses is to offer financial incentives. 

The union are in talks with the  HSE, the Department of Health, and the Department of Public Expenditure ahead of their own meeting next week where they'll decide on wether or not they'll pursue strike action. 

90% of INMO members voted for industrial action before Christmas as tensions mount in the sector with emergency department overcrowding and a shortage of nurses. 

There are 3,500 fewer nurses than in 2008, however the union claim the health service is now 20% busier.
