INMO Warn Patients At CUH Face A Winter Of Discontent If A Winter Plan Is Not Finalised

The union is to meet the HSE to discuss the recruitment and retention crisis


Patients at Cork University Hospital will face massive consequences if a winter plan is not finalised in the coming months.

That's the warning from the Irish Nures and Midwives Organisation who are due to meet the HSE in the coming weeks to discuss plans to tackle the recruitment and retention crisis and increase bed capacity at the hospital. 

The latest INMO trolley watch figures show 1,051 patients were forced to wait for a bed at CUH last month- an average of 34 people on trolleys every day. 

A status black escalation was declared at the hospital in April due to severe overcrowding, while patients were advised to contact their GP in the first instance due to long waiting times in the Emergency Department last month.
