Inquest Opens Into The Death Of A Young Boy At A Cork Creche In 2018

The inquest into the death of a 4 year old boy has heard that he had contracted a viral infection in his lungs which attacked his heart and caused him to collapse and stop breathing 

Cillian O'Driscoll of Parkgate in Frankfield was found unresponsive at Kindercare Childcare in Ovens on December 14th 2018.  He was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he lost his fight for life later that night 

An inquest is being held at Cork City Coroners Court today where 16 witnesses are being called to the stand 

In her evidence this morning Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster said his cause of death was two fold; cardiorespiratory arrest and bronchopneumonia 

The court has also heard from Cillian's mother Deirdre O'Driscoll who says it was unusual for him to nap during the day, however he was napping in the childcare facility that morning before he was found unresponsive 

Childcare worker who was on duty that day Ciara O'Connor also gave evidence and other childcare staff members are due to give evidence as well today 

The inquest is continuing at Cork City Coroners Court
