Instagram and Snapchat are defending how they're tackling drugs being sold on the platforms

An investigation has found dozens of accounts on the social media sites advertising the sale of drugs like cocaine and cannabis.

It's led to concerns about how easy it is for young people to access substances online.

Brendan Cummins, a youth worker at Familibase youth project in Ballyfermot in Dublin, says it's not hard to find:

"You can nearly Facebook search in the Facebook bar for a certain type of drug, and it will come up in your feed pretty much like. So if these are popping up on people's feeds all the time like it's nearly like the shopping channels where you repeat things and repeat things and repeat things- it kind of gets ingrained that it's not as harmful, everybody's doing it, it looks popular. It looks trendy. Young people are more likely to try it."
