Investigation Into Prisoner Protest On Roof Of Cork Prison

The Irish Prison Service has launched an investigation into how a man managed to escape from his cell and accessed the roof of the Cork Prison building.
The new €44 million euro facility is described as the most hi - tech and secure prison facility in the country.
John Paul O'Driscoll was eventually removed by prison staff using a cherry picker yesterday morning after a 17 hour standoff.
The cause of the protest remains unclear however it has been reported that the man was not protesting over conditions in the prison but instead had some personal issues which led him to the roof.
He is currently being medically and psychiatrically assessed by medics at the prison.
