Ireland has the 2nd highest rate of binge drinking in the world

Ireland has the second highest rate of binge drinking in the world.. That's according to a report released by the World Health Organization which found that 39% of all Irish people have engaged in binge drinking in the past 30 days.. This puts Ireland just behind Austria at the top of 194 countries studied.. The results of the study have prompted a swift reaction from Alcohol Action Ireland which says this harmful drinking pattern is reflected by the fact that three people are dying every day due to alcohol abuse in Ireland.. Suzanne Costello from the organization says the problem of binge drinking is being fueled by the widespread availability of cheap alcohol.. Click on PLAY button to hear audio
