Women are twice as likely to be affected by depression than men
Ireland has the highest rate of child suicide for girls in the EU with women twice as likely to be affected by depression than men.
That's according to a new report out today on women's mental health in Ireland.
The report also finds that for the first time, women in some of the poorest parts of Dublin are taking their own lives in the same numbers as men.
Here in Cork the trend is similar with suicide prevention charity Pieta House recording an increase of 20% year on year in the number of clients they see, with children as young as five presenting at their service.
Speaking to RedFM News Clinical Manager of Pieta House Sylvia O'Driscoll Wong says the vast majority of their clients are teenagers:
