Ireland's Most Violent Criminals To Be Held In Separate Unit

The country's most violent prisoners will soon be kept in their own unit.

The move follows a five-fold increase in assaults on staff by inmates at the women's jail Dóchas.

According to the Irish Examiner the number of assaults went up from 5 in 2015 to 26 in 2016.

The Prison Officers Association will open its annual conference in Galway later where the issue will be discussed.
