Irish boxer Michael O’Reilly out of the Olympics
Irish boxer Michael O’Reilly will not compete at the Olympic Games in Rio.
A statement from the Olympic Council of Ireland last night confirmed that the boxer is no longer contesting the provisional suspension imposed on him and will not compete for Team Ireland in Brazil.
Earlier, O'Reilly admitted to unintentionally taking a supplement which may have contained a banned substance.
A statement issued this evening says he was given the “supplement by someone unrelated to his team or association”.
The Irish Athletic Boxing Association said they are very disappointed that Michael O'Reilly may have taken any supplement without consulting their High Performance Support Team.
