Irish flags to fly at half mast following Berkeley tragedy

Heartbreak for the families of the Irish victims who are travelling to the US today

Irish flags on public buildings will fly at half mast today as the families of 6 Irish students who died in yesterday's balcony collapse in Berkeley arrive Stateside.

The victims have been named as 21-year-olds Olivia Burke, Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster, Lorcan Miller and Eimear Walsh - and 22-year-old Irish-American Ashley Donohoe from California - who was a cousin of one of those involved.

7 other Irish students were seriously injured when the balcony gave way - with a number of them said to be in a life-threatening condition.

Books of condolence will be open at UCD this morning where many of the victims studied.

Father Frank Herron is the Parish Administrator in Foxrock - where many of those affected live, he says the local community is devastated.
