Irish MEP Calls For EU To Do More To Rescue Migrants Who Get Into Difficulty Crossing Mediterranean

There have been several drowning events in recent months, with people trying to make the journey from Tunisia and Libya to Italy
Humanitarian organisation Red Crescent says 43 people died yesterday and 84 were rescued while attempting the crossing.
Green Party Dublin MEP, Ciaran Cuffe, believes Ireland can play a role - as part of a wider European effort - to rescue more migrants who get into difficulty:
"Obviously these efforts are coordinated at a European Union level. We can't proceed unilaterally. I think there is a gap in the Mediterranean, and that gap, I would hope, would be filled by a European effort to put much more focus on rescuing migrants who are in danger."
