Irish Rail Condemns Incidents Of Serious Racial Abuse On Trains

One incident of racial abuse was reported on a Cork-bound service in April

According to documents released under the Freedom of Information Act, it has received ten written complaints of racial abuse over the past 18 months, including five since March.

In a redacted complaint seen by RedFM News, one passenger complained that a man on a Dublin to Mallow train was racially abused and then punched by another passenger in April.

The passenger, who described themself as "incredibly vulnerable and a sitting target" during the incident, said they called Irish Rail's anti-social emergency number and Mallow train station, but were unable to get through on either number.

Irish Rail's Barry Kenny condemns the behaviour, but says the problem isn't widespread.
