Irish Rail says a small number of staff have been assaulted as a result of people drinking too much alcohol on trains.
It's enforcing a ban on alcohol on a number of services from today as a result of anti-social behaviour.
3 trains from Dublin to Galway and 1 train from Dublin to Westport on Fridays are affected.
Spokesperson Barry Kenny says the decision has not been made lightly.
