Irish Water refuse to comment on protests Leeside

It follows a media briefing at their operations contact centre in Bishopstown today.

Irish Water management travelled to Cork this morning and refused to answer questions about metering protests Leeside.

The media were invited to a briefing at the operations contact centre in Bishopstown where staff at Abtran handle incoming customer operations queries.

They outlined to reporters how they deal with service disruptions and outages along with the metering and billing systems but wouldn't comment on the strong opposition in Cork to the installation of water meters or Saturday's national protest.

A small group of protestors staged a peaceful demonstration outside Irish Water's operations in Mahon to coincide with the media briefing.

Meanwhile, Irish Water say the main issues they are facing when it comes to carrying out the installation are logistical such as understanding the plumbing in a particular estate and getting equipment to remote locations.

Speaking to RedFM News, Billing Services Operations Manager with Irish Water Andy Day says the metering operations are moving faster than expected.
