Irish Water to create new jobs

Some good news on the jobs front this morning. Up to 1,600 new construction jobs are expected to be announced by the new company tasked with collecting water charges. The Irish Independent reports that 25% of the new jobs will be reserved for those on the Live Register and will last around three years. It comes just days after Irish Water announced up to 240 positions will be created at eight regional offices around the country, including 32 jobs in Mallow. Another 400 positions are being rolled out at the Abtran call centre in Bishopstown, which will process applications and customer queries in relation to Irish Water's operations. The first bills for water charges will be issued to the public in January 2015.
