Irish Youth Federation says pandemic has created a "generational time bomb"

A youth advocacy group's warning the pandemic has created a 'generational time-bomb' for disadvantaged children and young people.

The Irish Youth Foundation says 4 in 5 youth workers believe it'll have a "profound long-term impact".

Mental health, drop-off in education and difficulties with training and employment are their main concerns.

But CEO of the Irish Youth Foundation, Lucy Masterson, says the situation can be reversed.

This report is really pointing to the fact that if we don't act now we're facing a generational time bomb.

"But there are solutions. There are solutions in this report, from funding, providing safe spaces, funding youth workers so they can respond and they can catch this."
