Issue of flood insurance raised in the Dáil today

Many areas across the city and county suffered flood damage during the winter months.
The Finance Minister says the attitude of insurance companies to flood protection measures is "bordering on the ridiculous.
Michael Noonan's faced questions in the Dáil about the fact that hundreds of millions of euro of taxpayers money is to be spent on so-called "demountable" flood protection schemes.
But the insurance industry is refusing to accept such schemes as sufficient and continues to deny cover.
A number of Cork towns were badly hit by flooding during the winter months and this led to continued calls from residents and business owners for flood insurance.
