Issue of senior cycle assessment to be debated by ASTI today

The ASTI will put forward a motion to oppose any attempt to introduce assessment of students by their own teachers.
The assessment of students by their own teachers in the Senior Cycle could impact on the integrity of Leaving Certificate exams.
That's according to an ASTI member who made the comment at day two of the annual teacher's union conference in Cork.
Some teachers fear the introduction of the assessment of students will interfere with the relationship between students and teachers and say it's vital that final marks are decided by external examiners.
Speaking to RedFM News, teacher Sinead Moore from St Joseph's Secondary School in Rush, says assessment of students by their own teachers could be open to exploitation.
