Jake's Law set to become a reality

A new 20km/h speed limit is to be introduced in residential areas after a heartbroken mother stepped up her campaign to bring about the change. Roseanne Brennan set up the campaign Jake's Legacy after her 6-year-old son was killed last June while playing outside their home and this week staged a three day vigil outside the Dáil to raise awareness. Last night at the first session of a two-day Dáil debate on the issue Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe confirmed the measure will be included as an option in this summer’s Road Traffic Bill. However the measure will not be compulsory and rather and option for local authorities. AUDIO: Speaking to RedFM News Roseanne Brennan says she hopes that if the 20km/h speed limit isn't introduced in some housing estates they will instead get speed ramps.
