Japanese Knotweed halts housing development in Clonakilty

The weed is listed by the World Conservation Union as one of the worst invasive species on earth because its root system and strong growth can damage concrete foundations, buildings, roads, paving and retaining walls.

An 8.7 million euro housing development in Clonakilty has been halted by an invasive plant.

Japanese Knotweed can destroy houses and has now established itself in several parts of the county.
