Joint Committee To Discuss Petition By Junior Cert Pupil

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will tomorrow discuss a petition from a Junior Cert pupil.
15 year old Tara O'Sullivan launched an online campaign in March to extend the English exam by 30 minutes and her petition attracted thousands of supporters.
Tara launched the initiative after her pre-Junior Cert exam when she and other students at her Dublin school found they were not able to complete the two-hour exam based on the new curriculum. After posting a petition online, she quickly realised that thousands of students in other schools had the same problem.
Tara is seeking an extra 30 minutes be added to the exam in order to make it fairer and Committee Chair, Cork TD Seán Sherlock, says Tara doesn't believe that the two hours assigned for this exam provides students with enough time to finish the exam or review, assess or adjust answers within the timeframe.
The Committe will deal with this and several other petitions tomorrow.
