Junior Trade Minister taking steps to try and reduce car insurance premiums

Robert Troy is today launching a public consultation seeking views on how to reform the Personal Injuries Assessment Board.

He says change is needed as people are hardly any better off going through the legal route for personal injury claims.

Minister Troy says less people have been using PIAB and that needs to change:

"In the last two years we've seen two Central Bank reports on motor insurance demonstrate that more people are rejecting the PIAB and going down the litigation route. This is contributing to the ultimate overall claims that's paid out. And what we want to see is a new enhanced, strengthened role for the Personal Injuries Assessment Board."
