Labour Councillors To Reject Rent Hike Plans
Labour Party members on the City Council have vowed to reject any rent hike proposals in the council’s December budget. The party's announcement has cast into chaos the pact arrangement between Fine Gael, Labour, and Fianna Fáil which is required to pass the annual budget. With Fianna Fáil expected to vote against the budget as it did last year, Labour’s objections leaves Fine Gael isolated. The Labour stance also ups the pressure on city management who will have to find other ways of balancing the books before the 16th of December meeting. At pre-budget briefings last week, city manager Tim Lucey told councillors he's trying to find ways of bridging an expected 4 million euro shortfall.
