LE Niamh rescues hundreds more migrants

The rescue operation took place off the coast of Libya yesterday.

The Irish Naval vessel the LE Niamh, which set sail from Cork in recent weeks, has rescued another 551 people in the Mediterranean.

They saved the refugees from a wooden barge off the coast of Libya yesterday.

The LE Niamh also helped to rescue another 700 people from a fishing boat, and they'll return them all to a port in Sicily this afternoon.

The ship has now rescued around 2 thousand 500 people in the area in recent months.
