Lee Road Water Treatment Facility Set For Upgrade
The upgrade, replacement and extension of the Lee Road Water Treatment facility has been given the green light.
The Evening Echo reports that this is the first major upgrade to Cork City's water supply in more than 60 years.
Up to 100,000 people receive clean drinking water from the plant, and Irish Water this week granted planning permission to the city council to undertake the works.
New flood protections will also be built at the site, and once construction begins, the project is expected to take 18 months to complete.
