Leeside Apartments tenants react after expert report says evictions not necessary

An expert report on fire safety issues at Leeside Apartments complex has concluded that it's not necessary to force tenants to leave the apartments for months or to evict tenants in order to carry out necessary safety repairs.

Lugus Capital issued notices to quit to more than 25 households in the complex before Christmas and claimed the move was necessary to facilitate fire safety repairs.

However according to the new report which was carried out by Kieran Spitere Consulting Engineers the repairs can be carried out without "huge disruption" to tenants.

Furthermore it issues a recommendation to move tenants for a period of "a week or so" to facilitate works if necessary and adds that the work can be carried out in stages. 

Residents met last week and agreed to accomodate the work if alternative accommodation was provided and current lease agreements remain in place.
