Lidl Fermoy Accuses Supervalu Fermoy Of Using The Planning Process As A Delaying Tactic

An objection was lodged to An Bord Pleanala in relation to the design of the proposed new Lidl building in Fermoy

Lidl has issued a strongly worded statement this morning accusing the owner of Supervalu in Fermoy of using the planing process as a delaying tactic to thwart competition.

The County Council had approved Lidl's multi million euro re-development plan for their store in Fermoy however an objection was lodged to An Bord Pleanala by neighbouring Supervalu owner Michael Riordan in relation to the design of the proposed new building

In the statement Lidl has accused Supervalu of using the planning process as a delaying tactic to thwart competition and expansion plans as the store rebuild will now be delayed by up to 9 months while An Bord Pleanala's decision is awaited.

Lidl say if the development is approved it would create 100 jobs during the construction phase and a further 10 full time retail jobs once the work is completed

In a statement issued to RedFM News Supervalu say An Bord Pleanala will provide a determination in relation to the proposed re-development and as a result they will not be commenting further on the matter
