Litter wardens to go undercover to combat dog fouling
Litter wardens Leeside are going undercover to tackle dog fouling.
Dog poo patrols are being set up in the city, with wardens donning civilian clothes to conduct out-of-hours checks in dog-poo blackspots.
The fine for dog fouling is €150, but not a single fine has been handed out in Cork City since 2017.
The city council’s director of operations David Joyce says they're going undercover, as they've been left with no other choice.
"My preference is that I'm not out issuing fines, because there's no fines to be issued because people are compliant and respect their city.
"But unfortunately at this point in time people don't. A lot of people do, the vast majority do, and I need to tackle that.
"I need to ensure that we make the city as clean as possible for the citizens."
