Local authorities under fire despite comprehensive gritting plan
Gardai say the roads have improved at this stage but caution is advised on all secondary roads.
Cork City and County Councils are assuring listeners that roads were gritted last night and again this morning and they will be treated again tonight if temperatures drop below freezing
The Councils was under fire earlier with people believing that the roads hadn't been gritted, however it's been confirmed that the roads had been treated but rain showers and plummeting temperatures early this morning led to several re-freezes which led to treachorous conditions for drivers...
Gritters had to take to the roads a second time to re-grit the main routes across the city and county during rush hour and a comprehensive gritting plan is in place for tonight and tomorrow morning
Gardai say the roads have improved at this stage but caution is advised on all secondary roads.
Tonight gritting will take place on category one and two roads - that's all national roads and most regional roads.
Minor roads which are classed as category three roads are not being gritted.
Motorists are advised to avoid any areas they know to be problematic.
Speaking to RedFM News Sergeant Peter Murphy from Anglesea St Garda Station says if people do have to travel they need to slow down:
