Locals On Boreenmanna Road In Cork City Are Coming To Terms With The Shocking News That A 2 Year Old Girl Has Died

She was assaulted in the early hours of the morning
Gardaí confirmed the toddler died after 10am at Cork University Hospital as a result of traumatic head injuries.
Officers were alerted at 5am after concerned neighbours reported a disturbance at an apartment in the Elderwood complex where the child lived with her 34 year old father and the man's 35 year old partner, who is not the child's mother.
A forensic examination of the apartment is being conducted by Gardai and the Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster will carry out a post mortem examination later today.
No arrests have been made and Gardaí have not yet taken statements from the man and woman in the apartment.
Speaking to RedFM News, local Councillor Des Cahill says locals are trying to make sense of the tragedy.
