Lone sailor rescued off the coast of West Cork after the mast of his yacht broke

The yacht was at sea for 14 days on a trip from the Azores to Ireland when the mast broke.
Courtmacsherry RNLI were called to assist the 32 foot yacht that got into difficulty 15 miles south west of Courtmacsherry Bay just after 9am this morning.
The steering of the yacht was disabled and the engine had also failed some time in the past four days.
The lifeboat towed the stricken boat back to Courtmacsherry and arrived at the Village Pontoon at 1:15pm.
Courtmacsherry RNLI say the skipper of the yacht had barely slept in the past four days and was 'mighty glad' to be on the safe ground of Courtmacsherry.
Station Officer Martin McCarthy and crewman Conor Dullea were part of todays rescue.
Martin recently received an award for over 50 years service to the RNLI while Conor recently received an award for 30 years of service.
