Long delays at Cork University Hospital A & E Unit

Patients advised to explore all options before presenting at the emergency department

Management at Cork University Hospital are advising patients to think twice before presenting at the A&E unit this weekend due to long delays.

The emergency department at the hospital has been exceptionally busy in recent days, resulting in long delays for patients presenting with minor ailments.

The delays are unusual for this time of the year and are being attributed to an increased number of patients presenting at the hospital and
delayed discharges

Hospital management say they are doing everything possible to minimise the delays but they are requesting that, where appropriate, the public explore all options before attending the A&E unit.

Speaking to RedFM News Dr Mike O'Connor Clinical Director at Cork University Hospital says he expects the delays to continue right across the weekend
