Lord Mayor calls for Cork councils to remain separate

Cork's Lord Mayor has called for the City and County Councils to remain separate entities.
Cllr Des Cahill made the comments following an announcement by Minister for Local Government Simon Coveney that the controversial merger plan of the two councils will be reviewed.
Mr Coveney confirmed a new panel of experts will re-examine the issues considered previously by the Cork Local Government Review Committee, who recommended the merger last September
The report triggered a judicial review by Cork City Council, and the plans were shelved, but this review aims to find a compromise that both city and county chambers will support.
Speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Cllr Des Cahill says a review is welcome but the issue should be the extension of the city boundary and retention of both councils:
