Lord Mayor will reconsider position if merger of councils is recommended

The Lord Mayor says he'll reconsider his position if a group set up to review the proposed merger of Cork city and county councils recommends a merger.
The McKinnen group which was set up to re-examine the work of its predecessor was given new terms of reference and is due to report back at the end of February however it's expected that time line will be extended.
The Lord Mayor has expressed concerns that parts of Cork will lose their identity if a merger is given the go ahead.
He has met with the McKinnen group and has recommended a boundary extension for at least two terms before the establishment of a super council could be considered.
Speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Cllr Des Cahill says he's not sure he could stay on in his position if a merger is recommended:
