Man (30s) Due To Appear Before Special Court Sitting Later Today In Connection With Stabbing In West Cork On Friday

A woman in her early 60s remains in a critical condition following the incident in Innishannon

"A woman named locally as Mary Coughlan has been left fighting for her life in Cork University Hospital after she was stabbed on Friday evening in her house close to Innishannon.

The house, where the incident happened, located on a 40-acre dairy farm, has undergone a forensic examination.

The mother of four, and retired teacher, received stab wounds to her arms and body.

She is believed to have been discovered by a relative, was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where she underwent surgery and is still in a critical condition.

A man in his early 30s, who is believed top be known to her, was arrested and taken to Bandon Garda Station, and is expected to appear before a special sitting of Bandon District Court at 7pm tonight.
