Man (45) sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of murder of Mother of three in the City

A 45 year old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after he was convicted by a jury of the murder of 38 year old mother who was found with over 130 separate injuries at his rented flat in Cork last year.
Cathal O'Sullivan, a native of Charleville, had denied the murder of Nicola Collins at his upstairs flat on Popham's Road in Farranree on March 27th 2017 but the jury at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork took just under four hours find him guilty of the charge.
During the trial, the jury heard evidence from the Assistant Pathologist that a brain trauma led to Ms Collins' death.
Neuropathologist, Dr Michael Janssen said that the axonal injuries or injuries to the nerve endings in Ms Collins' brain which she had suffered could not have resulted from a fall but could only have been caused by blows to her head.
