Man dies in house fire on Northside

A man in his early 70's has died in a house fire on the Northside of the city.

The blaze broke out at a house on Old Friary Place off Shandon Street at 11.40pm

Two units of the fire brigade responded to the scene and the fire was quickly brought under control however the man's body was recovered by firefighters inside the house .

His body has been taken to Cork University Hospital where a postmortem will be carried out.

Gardaí have launched an investigation into the blaze but at this stage they are not treating the incident as suspicious.
