Man Due In Court Following Shooting Of Animals In Mallow

A 32 year old man is due to appear in court in Mallow this morning in connection with the shooting dead of two dogs and six horses at two farms belonging to a relative over the weekend.
The man, who is from the Newmarket area, was arrested by armed gardai when they surrounded a house in Meelin at around 1pm on Sunday and conveyed to Mallow Garda Station for questioning.
The man was questioned throughout Monday about the shooting spree and last gardai received directions from the DPP to charge him in relation to the shooting of the animals at the two farms.
Gardai have sent a shotgun and a hunting rifle they discovered throughout the search for a technical examination by garda ballistics experts to confirm that they were the weapons used in the shootings.
