Man in court today following incident where a man was attacked with a hammer and had his dog stolen
The 27 year old was arrested in Carrigtwohill yesterday and questioned at Mayfield Garda Station about the incident on April 11th.
Denis McCarthy was walking his French Pit Bull, Rocco on Ballincollie Road in Ballyvolane at around 4pm when a masked man jumped out out a car and attempted to hit him with a hammer.
The man grabbed the dog and sped off in a car that was driven by another man.
Gardaí identified a suspect in East Cork and recovered the dog later that night. They also seized a Ford Focus car.
The price of dogs like French Pit Bulls would usually be around €800, however prices have reached as much as €2,000 due to the pandemic and demand.
