A man in his twenties has died following an incident near Garretstown beach.

A man in his twenties has died following an incident near Garretstown beach.

It's understood the 22-year-old fell from a cliff blow-hole yesterday evening while on a camping trip with friends.

Emergency services were alerted at around 11.30 last night and were dispatched to the scene. 

In a statement issued to RedFM News gardaí say local fire services, and the Coast Guard attended the scene 

Shortly after midnight the man's body was recovered from the water by rescue divers. He was pronounced dead at the scene and the coroner has been notified. 

It's also reported a second man, who went to his rescue, became trapped. He was rescued by emergency services throughout the course of this operation.

Gardaí say Investigations are ongoing.

Courtmacsherry and Kinsale RNLI as well as Irish Coastguard from the Old Head of Kinsale were also called out to nearby Garrylucas beach earlier yesterday afternoon after a family got into difficulty. 

They were also aided by surfers who helped bring them back to shore.

Coast Guard spokesperson Gerard O'Flynn says the alarm was raised at around 11:30 last night:

"The report was that a man has got into difficulty, a young man who appeared to have fallen into a blow hole, the depth was believed to be approximately 20 feet. Valencia alerted rescue services, sometime after midnight. The body of a man was recovered, and another colleague of his who was endeavouring to render assistance was also recovered from the scene and he was transferred into the care of the HSE."
