Management transfer at Jack Lynch Tunnel sparks toll fears

City officials are urging the Government to clarify whether a toll system will be in operation at the Jack Lynch Tunnel once new management takes over early next year. Egis Road and Tunnel Operation Ireland, the company which manages Dublin’s tolled Port Tunnel, are set to take control of the operation and maintenance of the tunnel from the 20th of February. The outsourcing of tunnel management has sparked fears that tolls will be in operation - just last week the City Council's Senior Executive Engineer confirmed to RedFM News that there is no suggestion that tolling would apply to the Tunnel and he says any move in that regard is a matter for Government. AUDIO: However Irish Examiner reporter Eoin English told the Neil Prendeville Show that he expects Cork Chamber to call for a clear statement on the issue. Click the PLAY button above to hear.
