MEP tells Edwin Poots that Northern Ireland protocol won't be abolished

A Fianna Fáil MEP has told the incoming DUP leader there's no chance of the Northern Ireland protocol being abolished.
It's after the Edwin Poots said yesterday the deal had been 'hugely damaging' to the North and should be scrapped.
He wants the Irish government to withdraw its support for the agreement, which involves checks on goods into the North as a result of Brexit.
But MEP Barry Andrews is dismissing his comments.
"Edwin Poots needs to recognise that it was the UK government that negotiated the protocol in the first place.
"There is no realistic alternative to the protocol.
"I think Edwin Poots would be better advised to strategise for Northern Ireland the benefits that flow from being both in the UK and having access to the EU single market."
