Micheal Martin Calls For Review Of Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme

The leader of Fianna Fáil has called for a review of proposals made by the Save Cork City Group who have been campaigning against the planned flood relief scheme for the city.
The group says the current plans for the €140 million Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme will destroy the fabric of the city centre as they focus on raised embankments and quay walls.
A tidal barrier is among the suggestions being made by the group who has submitted their ideas to the Office of Public Works.
Micheál Martin has added his voice to the debate and says the construction of flood defence walls could take a decade to complete and the proposal of a tidal barrier should be explored.
However the OPW say a tidal barrier would cost at least €450 million.
Speaking to RedFM News Save Cork City Spokesperson John Hegarty says there is a team of engineers behind their proposal and this solution isn't a complicated one:
