Middle Parish Say The Patrick Street Car Ban Has Turned Their Locality Into A Main Thoroughfare

The restriction on private cars using the street during evening rush hour was introduced yesterday

The Chairman of Cork's historic Middle Parish Community says their locality has been turned into a main thoroughfare as a direct result of the decision to impose a ban on private cars on Patrick Street

The restriction on private cars using the street was introduced yesterday and will be in place from 3pm to 6:30pm, seven days a week in an effort to allow the free movement of public transport on the street during evening rush hour

Motorists were stuck in 2 hour long traffic jams yesterday on the city's outskirts in particular on Merchant's Quay, Lavitt's Quay, Cornmarket street and Washington street

The residents of Middle Parish say motoists are being forced to use the streets in their area as they have nowhere else to go and they claim they raised this concern with City Council in advance of the car restriction being imposed on Patrick Street

George Patterson has been living on Grattan Street for 15 years and he told RedFM News that he can't see a solution to the gridlock in their area
