Minister Michael McGrath says people shouldn't have to go to work if they're sick

The Public Expenditure Minister says people shouldn’t feel they have to go to work if they’re sick.
The Cabinet is discussing a proposal that employers would have to guarantee a minimum number of paid sick days from next year.
It's estimated half of workers may not have access to sick leave at present.
Speaking on his way into Cabinet, Minister Michael McGrath says it will be a few years before the legislation is completely enacted.
"This is something that particularly affects low paid workers, and I think it has come to the fore during Covid-19 whereby people may feel the need to go to work even with symptoms, because they would not be paid otherwise.
"We also recognise that this is a significant imposition on employers, and the Tánaiste is bring forward its phased introduction over the next couple of years."
